Harris County Deputies Deserve Better Pay NOW

The Houston Police Department is shorthanded and they are trying to "lure" Harris County Deputy Sheriff's officers to jump the county ship and join their ranks. They offer a signing bonus and much better benefits and health care. It's a no-brainer for deputies with at least five years patrol experience. And it's a crying shame that the HCSO doesn't seem the least bit concerned. The Sheriff and his command staff ought to be 1) using their considerable influence with Commissioner's Court to get the guys (and gals) some more money and 2) communicating to their deputies that they feel their pain and they are trying to help get them better wages. The Sheriff's Department has been short-handed on patrol deputies for years and years and as more and more people move into the county the worse it gets.

A brand new website has been set up and I urge you to go and look at the figure for yourself. It's at http://www.underpaiddeputies.com/ and the name pretty much says it all.

I'm concerned that the shortage in patrol personnel in Harris County is going to become worse and worse and the tax paying citizens are the ones at risk. As such, we are the ones that need to contact our County Commissioner and ask for better working conditions for these brave men and women.
